Some thoughts on "All That Hair"

V receives many comments on her head of hair. A few admissions of our own:

-- Her hair covers up a good little case of cradle cap (in scientific terms, infantile seborrheic dermatitis.) Apparently babies with hair are more prone to getting it as it involves an overproduction of oil in oil glands. Among the suggested treatments are dandruff shampoo - poor thing! Thankfully it doesn't bother her, so I'm trying not to let it bother me.

-- Both Gil and I were born with a good bit of hair, too, so having this much hair at birth doesn't really predict what your hair will be like later in life.

-- "Don't you hate it when random strangers touch your baby?" -- new moms seem to be asked this in a knowing way. Given how many people spontaneously touch her hair, I've gotten over feeling protective of V. The seniors I sit next to on the bus love to peer beneath her blanket and pat her head.

-- Though I have no future as a baby fashion stylist, the cute baby girl headbands just look ridiculous on her. Case in point.

It got returned to the store.
